Akshay Wadkar made a career-best 198, helping Vidarbha post 428 runs in their first innings against Pondicherry in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group C match being played at the VCA's Jamtha Stadium on Monday.
Vidarbha captain Wadkar resumed on his overnight score of 112 and, with Yash Rathod, took the team's score to 309. Rathod added only three runs to his overnight tally of 131 before being dismissed. The duo added 255 runs for the sixth wicket, putting Vidarbha in a commanding position.
Wadkar, whose previous highest score was 146 not out, continued to bat with authority. However, as Vidarbha's lower order collapsed, he risked running out of partners. He lost his wicket trying to reach his maiden double century and was the last man out for 198 (363 balls, 4x23).
Pondicherry made a strong start and were 107/1 at close of play on Day 2.
