VCA NEWS: Vidarbha win Irani Cup for 3rd time

Vidarbha completed a comprehensive 93-run victory over Rest of India to lift the Irani Cup for the third time  at the Jamtha Stadium on Sunday.

Needing 331 runs on the final day, the Rest of India team, 30/2 overnight, lost their captain Rajat Patidar who caught and bowled by pacer Aditya Thakare. Ruturaj Gaikwad lasted a mere 19 balls before edging Darshan Nalkande to the wicketkeeper.

Ishan Kishan, hung around for a while before losing his head and holing out in the deep off Harsh Dubey.

And when Saransh Jain fell Leg- before wicket to Parth Rekhade, Rest of India were tottering on 133/6.

However Yash Dhull saved Rest of India’s face by scoring at a brisk rate in the company of Manav Suthar. Together they added 104 runs for the seventh wicket. Dhull struck eight fours and a six for a 117-ball 92 before playing an uppercut off Yash Thakur and Atharva Taide held a brilliant catch at deep third man.

Thereafter Suthar played a few bold strokes but Vidarbha bowlers grabbed the last three wickets to seal victory.

Taide was adjudged the Player of the Match for his fine hundred in the first innings.

VCA Hon Secretary Mr Sanjay Badkas handed over the Irani Cup to the winning captain Akshay Wadkar.
