ndia International Jitesh Sharma will lead Vidarbha in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy Group ‘D’ League matches to be played in Vizag from November 23 to December 5, 2024.
Jitesh, who was part of Team India squad which won the four-match T20I series in South Africa 3-1 earlier this month, also captained Punjab Kings in an IPL match in 2024. The selectors have placed their faith in the hard-hitting batsman and wicketkeeper to lead the team in SMA Trophy.
Akshay Wadkar, who led Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy, winning the first four matches outright and gaining first innings lead against Gujarat, has also been included in the squad. Wadkar is in great form and scored an unbeaten century against Gujarat.
VCA’s Senior Selection Committee, which met on Monday, included senior pacer Umesh Yadav in the 17-member squad, which also includes white-ball specialists Yash Thakur, Shubham Dubey and Apporva Wankhade.
Vidarbha’s Assist Coach Atul Ranade will be in charge as the selectors have given Senior Team coach Usman Ghani, under whose guidance the team has excelled in the recent Ranji Trophy, has been given a break considering the long season ahead.
