Indian Gymkhana were declared winners of the Guzder League ‘A’ Division (2-Day) Trophy, 2023-34 after the final was adversely affected by unseasonal rain at the VCA Civil Lines Stadium.
A wet outfield resulted in soggy underfoot conditions, thereby severely affecting play. Due to overnight rain, only 55 overs were possible on Sunday (Day 1) during which Navniketan Cricket Club scored 226/5 after winning the toss. More rain on Sunday evening forced umpires to start play only at 13.30 hrs. Navniketan amassed 322/7 in 73 overs as the match ended in a tame draw.
Darshan Patel top-scored for Navniketan CC with a fine 115. Akshay Agarwal contributed 65, while Avesh Shaikh made 49. Indian Gymkhana captain Gaurav Dhoble claimed 4 wickets for 119 runs
As per tournament regulations if no result is achieved even on the basis of first innings, the team which had the maximum number of points in the league phase would be declared champions. Thus, Indian Gymkhana, which had accumulated 26 points from nine matches in the league phase, were crowned champions.
