VCA NEWS: BIG PAY DAY FOR VIDARBHA DUO SHUBHAM DUBEY AND UMESH YADAV

Vidarbha’s Shubham Dubey hit the jackpot when he was picked up for a whopping Rs 5.8 crore by the Rajasthan Royals at the IPL players’ auction in Dubai on Tuesday.

Vidarbha’s senior pro, Umesh Yadav, who was released by KKR, was picked up by Gujarat Titans for Rs 5.8 crore.

Dubey, who is a big-hitting left-hander, made a case for himself by scoring 221 runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali (T20) Trophy in October. It wasn’t the number of runs he scored that caught the eye of the talent spotters, but his strike rate of 187.28.

Dubey, who came in as an Impact Player against Bengal, had smashed 58 runs in 20 balls to seal victory for Vidarbha who chased down a 213-run target with two overs to spare.

Delhi Capitals set the ball rolling for Dubey, whose base price was Rs 20 lakh, triggering a bidding war with Rajasthan Royals, who ultimately bagged their man for Rs 5.8 crore.

Umesh, whose base price was Rs 2 crore, saw Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad fight it out to get him on board. Fierce bidding by the two pushed up Umesh’s price, and though Delhi Capitals made a last-ditch effort to grab the pacer, Gujarat Titans held firm to make sure they have their man.

Till 6.00pm (IST) Umesh and Shubham were the headline makers for Vidarbha at the IPL mini auction which is likely to continue till late evening with several rounds of bidding yet to be completed.
